Summer storms

Crazy Minnesota weather is back in full swing after a rather calm start to our summer. On Monday night a storm with 80 to 90 mph winds took out several trees around our home. Fortunatly, our yard was untouched. Joe is benefiting from all the down trees though and has been staying busy all week removing them.

On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning Duluth was hit by flash floods. The full extent of the damage is unknown - but many roads were completely washed out and homes & businesses destroyed. The zoo became home to additional flood refugees with a polar bear & 2 harbor seals joining the Minot bears that are still there. The story about their adventure out of their enclosures on Wednesday morning has made them quite the hot topic so they are being talked about by every radio station/TV channel/newspaper...

Mary is staying busy with work but seems to be enjoying her travels. She told us a funny story of where she went to the UN compound to go running on a track they have for humanitarian workers to use. During her run she suddenly came face to face with a bull. She said she stopped, they eyed one another for a minute, and then Mary turned & ran in the opposite direction. Below is a picture to show you what the bulls look like.

Hopefully the next time I post I will have a picture of Aunt Patti paddleboarding on the lake for everyone to be impressed over:) She is determined to try it, yet she just needs calm water for her first attempt. Frank is getting pretty good at it until Nelli sees a fish and her excitement sends them both into the water... Unfortunately I have yet to capture this on camera, but I am sure I will have plenty of oppertunity to do so as Nelli doesn't seem to let anyone go on it without her.
